Project 2 ---------- Transformation

Whilst sitting in tuesday lecture and hearing of what I had ahead of me I tried to think of what could inspire me when the topic of Walt Disney came up and a short hand drawn anitmation was shown I knew I had my inspiration

Walt Disneys Fantasia!!!!
The part that I really like is the bit when Mickey stands on hilltop, rock thingand commands the stars what to do and makes fire works out of collosions so I decided to use this idea and created this story board.......

final wallpaper

The first of my wallpaper.......(inspired by material patern)...........

The second of my wallpaper....(inspired by a tutu)................

The third of my wallpaper......(inspired by my original material picture).....................
The final of my wallpaper..........(inspired by a ballet shoes)...................

I feel I have connected these through the black and white colours and line and curves and to a degree line weight.

This is my open processing account where all codes can be found

After the presentation I looked at my images and decided that I will use the material wallpaper as the set......
I liked the way the material flowed and the lines interconnecting and the more natural feel that the texture of material has. After the last lecture I looked at how I could further this feel and idea into a set. After researching I found these images.............

I liked how, like the material, animal and insect prints flowed and had the same natural feel that the texture.I wanted to mimic that type of pattern but attempt to make it more replicas of the flowing material.
I attempted first the basic rough material shape;

http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=24791
The way it turned out was not what I wanted so I went back to the 'drawing board'. I found many other images on open processing.org that where using an actual image with transperancy colour over top and I wanted to try this to see how it would work.
I found this image of a dress....
And attempted to use a section to create an image.......
http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=24821I liked this but I wanted to go further and actually use more coding skills so again, went back to 'the drawing board' and found images that I felt related to my original image..........

I began to play around with codes on processing and whilst trying something else I managed to make a pattern that was simple but I believed communicated my ideas, so as a result I have attempted to create abstracted pictures ........ I decided then to use simple black and white colours and make abstract images of material, material pattern, ballet shoes and a tutu.
Firstly the first wallpaper is an abstracted version of material pattern.........
http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=24813The next wallpaper is abstracted tutu.......
http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=24816The next wallpaper is a more abstracted version of my original material image......
http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=24817The last wallpaper is my attempt at abstracting ballet shoes.....

BTW

By the way these are the magazines I borrowed from the library that I got my inspiration from (although I did flick through other magazines these are the ones which I actually got images from)....

This one is called "urbis, DESIGN/LIVING/ARCHITECTURE"...... from 30 Nov 2010..... Its a New Zealand design magazine............
This one is called "Vogue"......... I think its from the 13 Jan 2011....... Its the british vogue........

DSDN 142_My fourth design!!!!!

With my last design I really wanted to tie together my first design and the last two and actually make it clear so I looked for a dress which had more texture and found these.....

I found this page and thought the layering of materials would work better for what I wanted to do combining graphic with flowing natural feel material has.......

I decided to quickly draw the images using water colour in order to get my ideas out faster, I looked at the dress and bow...
I decided to do a sketch using the dress and added a border wwith text to see how it looked and if it made it more graphic looking. I think though that the dress like this didnt work as well nor did adding red, I think I will just stick to the black and white for now!!! (The bottom picture is me trying to draw it with a bow and giving up!)

The final image uses the a the bow instead of the dress which I think works better, and just uses black and white to make it more graphic which I think ties in with the second and third sketches whilst the bow ties in with the material of the dress in the first one.
Next week....... Again Paint then coding done by wednesday!!!!! alowing for plenty of mistakes to be fixed up!

DSDN 142_ My third design

I really liked the graphic nature of the door but I wanted to come to the fashion magazines. I wanted to combine an image of material with the graphic simple nature I believe the chair had.... when reading the mag i found these images.........
The white dress caught my eye as I was flicking through. I thought it was cool how it was made of more simple shapes....... it would be easily translated into a more simple graphic image for a wallpaper.
I also loved the idea of hanging clothes and wardrobes, this picture gave me an idea on how the imagge could look. It woul also prehaps give more meaning to why a dress would be hanging on a door rather than that it looked good......
I began by doing the top image, which I basically just drawed the dress. I keeped the top part more simple but included detail in the skirt part to show it was material. I did the bottom image second and decided that I wouldnt include any detailing trying to keep it as clean and simple as possible I also included the hanger to see how it worked.......
This is how the final sketch turned out, unlike the final sketch of the chair I think the image of the dress is more to scale of how I would imagine it looking on an actual wallpaper.
Next week......Again I will use paint then move to making the code again aiming to have it pretty much finished by wednesday in order to allow time for any mistakes...

DSDN 142_My second design

Although I love the idea of material as wall paper I didnt want to create four wall paper images all exactly the same, so I revisted the design books and found this image................

I saw the chair and I loved the simplicity of it, I also liked that it was all one colour and was quite graphic, especially the red chair and I thought that it might look cool if it was made more simple........

I decided to take away all the lines that were on the chair and make it as simple as possible, also making it just white and set to a black background, I liked this idea and stuck with it............

This is my final sketch for this design, it turned out larger than I would have liked, if it was actual wallpaper, dependent on the wall, the chair would be one alone and no bigger than an average chair and centre.
Next week...... Again I will try to recreate this image on a more simple programme for me to use, paint then make a code all finished (hopefully) by wednesday!!!!

DSDN 142_My first wallpaper design

Ok so to begin my wallpaper design i needed firstly inspiration but with my lack of access to the internet I had to op for what is becoming a less conventional style of research; the library!!! So I went in to the public library and looked at design books and realised that there were large books with lots of words but not enough pictures and I didnt get much inspiration from them so I ventured into the magazine aisiles.... Begining with design magz, I then moved to music and film magazines but not untill I found a fashion mag did the real inspiration come....
Begining my first wallpaper design I flipped through the pages and found this ad......
The thing that stood out to me the most was the fabric... the way it fell and how much attention it demanded. I thought it would be a good idea to create interest on a wallpaper by creating texture that resembled flowing material....
I began by drawing the actual dress on its own and then focused on what part I liked and what I believe would best fullfill what I intended to do.......

This is my final sketch that i intend to recreate on a code for the final wallpaper.
Next week............ I intend to make this into a code,, firstly however I will use a basic easy programme like paint to recreate image digitally so it can hopefully make it eaiser for me to make a code out of!!1
